Stereotypes

Hello everyone,

We've been reading and discussing about stereotypes in our lessons. Last class we talked about countries like Scotland, the USA, Ireland and England. We also discussed the possible stereotype for Brazil and Brazilians according to foreigners.

As you all know, President Obama was in Brazil last weekend and on his last day, he gave a speech at Teatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro. This speech was addressed to Brazil and all the Brazilians. He mentioned many aspects of the Brazilian culture and characteristics of the Brazilian people.

Here's the activity:

1. Watch Obama's speech on Youtube and answer the questions below:
A. How does Obama describe the Brazilian people?
B. How does he compare Brazil and the USA?
C. Mention 2 other things that you thought were interesting about his speech.

Oh my God! I don't know what to say, but I know that if I'm really here, was because of all those people, who were always by my side supporting me! I have just to thanks everyone: my family, my friends, my teachers, and myself, because win a competition it is not easy, you must be working all the time, it requires so much work! I am very grateful to everyone who saw my movie and who were cheering for me, I love you! Thanks for all!

And the Oscar goes to...

Making an Acceptance Speech

Hello everyone!
This is our first post, so let's get started.

Here's what you have to do.

Imagine you've won a competition, an award or a prize. Now you have to speak in front of everyone to thank the people who helped you get the award, say how you are feeling, talk about your career, etc. What are you going to say in your acceptance speech?

If you need some inspiration, check Kate Winslet's acceptance speech at the Oscar Awards after winning the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for the movie The Reader. It's one of my favourites. The video is a bit long, so start watching it on 5min45sec.
